Last week, I had the honor of leading a webinar for over 70 leadership developers in Ukraine—courageous men and women navigating the exhaustion of prolonged war. It was humbling. Their energy, depleted. Their resolve, undeniable.
Oleg Lavrynovych, a retired commander of the Ukrainian Navy, invited me to share insights from my book, Leading the High-Energy Culture. He knew that what they needed wasn’t more tactics… It was regeneration.
There was even a highest-level security alert during the session. Some participants had to leave and take cover mid-webinar. Unimaginable.
And still—they came back. And still—they led.
The full webinar is available on YouTube.
Today’s Tips4Tuesday offers four universally transferable tips from that session to help leaders everywhere regenerate energy in difficult times.
Tip #1: Clarify What Matters Most
Energy leaks when we lose sight of our purpose.
Clear purpose fuels sustainable energy—it tells your brain why to keep going.
In Ukraine, leaders were asked to name one word that captured their spirit. Responses like “resilience,” “future,” and “truth” were grounding forces.
Know what you stand for—and say it out loud.
Tip #2: Name, Claim, and Aim Your Strengths
Regeneration starts with using your best gifts. We burn out fastest when we operate outside our natural talents.
One participant lit up when we uncovered how her *Strategic Thinking* strength helped others stay hopeful under pressure.
Lead from who you are—not who you think you should be.
Tip #3: Reconnect to Your Team’s Humanity
People are energy multipliers. Strong teams prioritize what’s best for the whole and embrace diverse talent.
Ukrainian teams shared openly—“You get the BEST of me when…” “What I NEED from you is…”
Regeneration requires relationship. Reconnect before you recharge.
Tip 4: Choose Light Over Fear
Leadership is a sacred act.
In dark times, people follow the light—leaders who move with clarity, courage, and hope.
A senior advisor said, “The war didn’t steal our leadership—it revealed it.”
When you choose light, others follow—even when they’re tired.
“Where am I pouring energy—and where am I leaking it?”
Stop. Center. Recharge with purpose.
As we pray for the end of war let’s regenerate—together.
