Keep Striving

by David Casullo author of Leading the High-Energy Culture: What the Best CEOs Do to Create an Atmosphere Where Employees Flourish

As someone who proclaims to be a student of leadership, I’ve come to believe that each of us has a blessing within, a gift that is ours. It could be that one objective of our life is to find our way to understanding what that is and to learn, along the way, that in striving we will fail but we will learn, and true failure only happens when we fail to learn.

Michael Fullan, a contemporary global authority on educational reform said, “Probably the greatest failure of leaders is indecisiveness in times of urgent need for action and DEAD certainty that they are right in times of complexity.” Boiled down to its simplest form this means… act but be open to redirecting your actions.

As life goes on it’s harder to act. We look for comfort and we eschew change. We can become complacent. It takes effort and a burning desire deep down to find what matters and to do something about it. Evolution happens when we do this. But imagine if we all took time to identify our blessings and to build them into strengths, and then courageously apply them to the needs of humanity.

The world needs what each of us has been gifted. Keep striving to find it and to share it. Oh, and always remember, fortis fortuna adiuvat!
